International Women’s Day is a moment to celebrate the incredible achievements of women worldwide. At STM, we celebrate women every day, and this year we’re sharing insights from across our team.
Nousheen, one of our talented developers, reflects on the role of inclusivity and mutual respect in creating opportunities for women to thrive in the workplace.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you personally?
For me, it is a celebration of achievements women have made in various fields and an acknowledgement of their contributions to empowerment and equality in society.
Who is a woman (past or present) who inspires you and why?
Both of my sisters inspire me deeply. I admire the remarkable achievements they have made in their respective fields. Their ability to thrive and succeed despite having limited resources and support around them is truly motivating.
What advice would you give to women who are early in their careers?
Believe in your capabilities and embrace opportunities to learn new skills. The more you grow and adapt, the more confident and valuable you’ll become. Stay curious, keep growing, and be open to challenges as you go through your career journey.
What do you think workplaces can do to create better opportunities for women to thrive?
Support women by ensuring fairness, offering flexible work options, and creating a culture where everyone feels respected and included.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned about gender equality in the workplace?
The true equality is about the culture and the people you work with. I work in a team of men, but I've never felt like the only woman in the group. I’ve been treated with respect, my opinions are valued, and my contributions are recognised. This has shown me that when people embrace inclusivity and mutual respect, gender doesn't become a barrier to collaboration and success.
How do you celebrate or empower women in your personal life?
I try to support them however I can, whether it’s just being there to listen, offering advice when needed or appreciating their achievements.
What does ‘Accelerate Action’ mean to you, and how do you put it into practice in your own life or work?”
I think for me it is about turning actions into results, even though it feels challenging, in my own life and work, I put this into practice by setting clear goals, creating actionable plans, and staying committed to seeing them through.
