Hope’s Journey: One year on as our Client Services Apprentice

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating the incredible progress of our apprentices, and today we’re spotlighting Hope, our Client Services Apprentice.

After a year with STM AGENCY, Hope has grown tremendously in her role, developing key skills and contributing to the success of our client services team.

In this “One Year On” feature, Hope reflects on her journey, the challenges she’s faced, and the lessons she’s learned along the way. Her story highlights the valuable experiences and growth that apprenticeships can offer, and we’re excited to share her journey with you.

Looking back, how would you describe your journey over the past year with STM AGENCY?

Over the past year, I’ve fully immersed myself in agency life, experiencing both the challenges and successes that come with being part of the client services team. I’ve loved building strong relationships with my colleagues and clients, which has made my role incredibly rewarding. My confidence has grown tremendously, and I’m excited for the future at STM AGENCY and the opportunities that lie ahead.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced during your apprenticeship, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I faced was transitioning to a new account, Certas. With no prior digital experience, taking on this account- especially with such a large handover—was initially overwhelming. However, by dedicating time to understanding the client’s market position and industry landscape, I was able to build my knowledge and confidence. This ultimately benefited me in client calls, allowing me to communicate more effectively and contribute valuable insights.

What skills have you gained that you didn’t expect to learn when you first started?

There are too many to list! However, one of the most significant skills I’ve developed is client management, learning how to communicate effectively, manage expectations, and build strong relationships. I’ve also honed my problem-solving and adaptability skills, as client needs often shift, requiring quick thinking and strategic adjustments to keep campaigns on track and deliver the best results.

Can you share a project or task you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of?

I am proud of all the packaging work we have done with Sykes all these jobs are quick turn arounds, and we have had some great feedback from the client.

How have you seen your role evolve over the past year?

Yes, I have taken on more responsibility within my role. I am not only supporting my line manager on more jobs but I am also starting to lead on calls and act quickly to urgent requests.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone considering an apprenticeship at STM AGENCY?

MAKE MISTAKES! The first thing I learned as an apprentice was, that I have to eventually make mistakes to help me improve. If you’re a perfectionist, it’s a hard pill to swallow that you're not going to know everything immediately however you are there to ask questions and make mistakes you're not going to get a chance to do this again within your career make the most of it!

What has been the most enjoyable part of working at STM AGENCY so far?

The most enjoyable part is 100% the people. I have been given not only so much support with my work but the people within STM AGENCY always have a smile on their faces even on a 9 am Monday morning call!

How do you feel STM AGENCY has supported your development and career growth over the past year?

The support is great from STM AGENCY I have been given plenty of time each week to work on my college course as well as Catherine taking her time to pick out the perfect course that is most suited to me.

Looking ahead, what are you excited about in the next stage of your apprenticeship?

I am excited to continue to develop skills and start climbing the ladder by being exposed to the industry.
